Ah, the waiting games a maiden mare plays

Well, Aspen still has not foaled. I am to the point where I am checking on her every few hours or so. As with most maiden mares, there are no "normal" signs you can watch for. Her bag is filling up and no waxing... I think she will go sometime this weekend. My vet will be by Monday if she hasn't foaled yet to take a look and make sure everything is OK.

In other news, I am still on track for surgery May 23rd and planning to move into our new house the first week of May. I am really hoping that the seller will let us start moving my fencing panels over in mid-April. It would be nice to get all of the horse stuff over there right off the bat and just have to worry about the house stuff in May when we finally close. I want to be completely moved in by the time my surgery rolls around. My Mom is planning to come visit for 2 weeks following my surgery so she can help me unpack and put things away. (And by help me, I mean she will be doing the work)

Since I will be recovering from surgery this summer, I won't be able to ride at all. I need to do a lot of ground work/training with Varro to keep him from getting super bored. I plan to use the Clinton Anderson DVDs to inspire me. I might even try training him to do a couple tricks. Any ideas out there on how to work a horse, keep him mentally and physically fit without riding? I have 12-18 months before I will be able to ride so will be trying to think outside of the training box!
