Let me start out by saying... Varro has shoes on and is ready to ride! Now, with that being said, let me back up to 3 weeks ago when his hooves were a hot mess. The farrier I had been using rescheduled twice then was a no show for the twice rescheduled appointment! Needless to say, he got fired. I spent the next 2 weeks looking for another farrier. (What a nightmare it is to move and have to find a new farrier and vet that you can trust) I must have made 20 phone calls! I finally found one that makes weekend calls, has good recommendations and was early for our appointment! YAY I think we got a keeper! He was patient and worked quickly.
For the last 3 weeks Varro has been on vacation. He has been intermittently lame and I just didn't want to make it worse. Right after RD (the farrier) put his front shoes on I moved him out and WOW he was moving 50 times better! He does not have enough hoof to put rear shoes on this time but we will try to do it next time. At any rate, he is ready to ride!
In other news, I started my new job 2 weeks ago and have been trying to work out my evening schedule to be able to ride every night. It looks like I will be home shortly before 6pm every night so will able to ride for about 1/2 hour or so at least until the time change... What I wouldn't give to have a lighted covered arena.... (Fairy Godmother, if your listening I would also like some nice footing too) I get my first paycheck next week so plan to start my lessons Oct 4th! I am so excited to finally be able to get back into the saddle.
