Horsey Day Deluxe at the Ranch

Today started with a wonderful relaxing trail ride. Varro was bave and was lead horse! I had a loose rein the entire ride! Second on the agenda was Apollo's first work out: Check out his training page to read all abot it! The day wrapped up with an amazing lesson on Varro!

Fun trail ride

A friend of mine and I went out on a fun trail ride today! We were out for about an hour and a half. We rode by all sorts scary monsters such as wild barking dogs, flushing birds and junk cars and boats! Varro was a brave lead trail horse! I can't wait for our ride and lesson tomorrow!

Chiro for everyone!

The chiropractor came out today and adjusted Varro and Apollo. Varro did very well and Apollo was squirmy and pushy. Both horses are feeling much much better after the appointment! Varro was quite relaxed after his and Apollo kicked up his heels a bit!

Apollo comes home!

We had a great trip home and Apollo was a dream to haul! He was a stinker to load up but hey, none of us like new things! Once we got home he off-loaded very nice and polite! Not a peep! He stood still while I took his boots off and ambled over to his new "bedroom." Varro was beside himself with a new horse in town! Apollo was so chill he was like... "Dude! Chill out where's the grub?" Dr. Petrus (my awesome vet) is coming out on Dec 7th and will look over his injury. I am excited to hear what she has to say and see just how long of a layup he needs! Once we get the "all clear" I will start in with his ground work and work up from there! WAHOO!

A new family member

I would like to introduce Apollo, the newest member of our family! We will be able to go pick him up Sunday! He is currently recovering from a suspensory ligament injury so will need a little bit of rehab and some time off but is expected to make a good recovery. Apollo will be my easy peasy trail buddy! I am also hoping he will be a good "show buddy" for Varro and help keep him company and calm at the BIG shows!

Pepperglen Show

I just posted some pictures and my scores on the "Show Results" page. Varro did great! I didn't push for better results but totally could have! Liz (my trainer) said he looked good and was in a good frame of mind to push but I took the easy way out :-) He was well behaved all day and hopped in the trailer when it was time to go home like a champ! What a great boy!

Getting ready for the show

I had a wonderful trail ride on Varro today and even brought my dog Papi along! After the ride was a bath and braiding to get ready for the show tomorrow.  He really is a super star! Time for a little nap then get myself ready for the show!

Equine Weekend

It was a wonderful weekend! Saturday was the trail ride and pot luck and we all had so much fun! Saunday was the MBHA Payday and it was so good to see some old friends! I did not enter any classes as I wanted our first playday to be a positive experience for Varro. He was a Champ! We walked around the area, hung out with 50 other horse and riders while they cheered and whistled and he still was a rock start! Well bahaved, steady and such a great boy! Next weekend, the Pepperglen Show!

My First Destination Lesson

Today was the first time I hauled my new trailer with my new Suburban (aka Molly) I took Varro to my trainer's for our lesson! He was a bit "uppity" when we first got there but settled in and we had a wonderful lesson! I am going to have to fire up the CUCV (aka Krull) and drag the dirt road once a week! It took my longer to haul Varro to the paved road than it did to get to Liz's! I have a lot of "homework" from Liz to work on before our show on Nov 4th at Pepperglen! I am going to try every night this week and see if Chris can take some pictures! I am also going to spend a couple hours updating this blog with more pictures!

Oct 14th Lesson

I had a great lesson with Liz this morning. We worked on pushing Varro up into the contact with the bridle. It took a lot of leg to get him moving forward. He can get a little cranky when he doesn't want to work... but then again who doesn't??? HAHAHA We also worked on trot to canter transitions along with my body posture/position and balance during the canter. It was a very productive lesson! Next week I am trailering to Liz's facility for the lesson! I am so glad I now have a beautiful trailer and a powerful Suburban to pull it!

Looking twards the future

In anticipation of my pending retirement, I have decided to no longer offer boarding services to new clients. I have also decided to not deal with the buying and selling of horses but rather training Varro and working to achieve my Adult Amateur Medal with the United States Dressage Federation (USDF) I am thinking of using this blog as a replacement of my Olympus Ranch Website.....

Let me know what you think. Would this type of venue work as well as the website does? Comments would be appreciated!
